Course Overview

You can then take a further teaching qualification if required. The Award is ideal if you are not yet in a teaching role, have just started teaching, or just want to know what’s involved. It is the first step on the teaching qualifications’ ladder and is offered at level 3 on the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF).
The course will run over a 6 weeks period, running 1 day per week and is classroom based. You will also have work to do outside of the classroom up to approximately 120 hours.
Micro Teaching
During the course you will be required to deliver a short session known as Micro Teaching (approximately 15minutes), usually to your peers, known as micro teaching, and then evaluate your practice. If you are currently in a teaching role, it may be possible to be observed with your own learners in your teaching environment.
The Award is made up of the following 3 units on the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF)

The Assessment
You will be expected to produce assignments which may be in the form of an essay, case study, reflective journal and project. Some might have a more academic focus, i.e. require formal writing and the use of research and referencing. Delivery and assessment method will be varied and interesting. You will be expected to participate in group work, discussion, individual research and presentations. Each unit consists of learning outcomes and assessment criteria. You will complete various assessment activities to demonstrate your skills, knowledge and understanding throughout your time taking the Award. Some of your work will be sampled by an internal quality assurer (IQA), and possibly an external quality assurer (EQA), to ensure it meets the requirements.
